Chile Considering Cancellation Of December 11 Public Holiday

(Posted on Monday, April 6, 2009)

The Chilean President's Deputy Chief of Staff (subsecretario de la Presidencia), Edgardo Riveros, announced that, in the coming days, President Bachelet would send to Parliament a bill that would move from Friday, December 11, to Sunday, December 13, the date of the upcoming elections and of the associated public holiday.

The recently published Cronograma Electoral had confirmed the date of December 11 as a public holiday (17-Mar-2009) despite a long-lasting debate about having a weekday election (14-Jan-2009).
