China's Guangdong provincial Governor, Huang Huahua, announced that Guangdong Province might extend the upcoming May Day public holidays to last for a week to boost tourism and stimulate domestic consumption amid the financial crisis.
The May Day public holidays ran nationally for a full week (called Golden Week) from 1999 to 2007, but were then reduced to 3 days only to include 3 new traditional public holidays in the list of China's official public holidays (09-Nov-2007).
If this came to pass, then it would be the first time that a major regional difference in the list of China's public holidays would occur.
