Ecuador's SENRES agency (Secretaría Nacional Técnica de Desarrollo de Recursos Humanos y Remuneraciones del Sector Público) has announced that this year's 2-day Carnival public holidays would be compensated by Saturday, February 28 and Saturday, March 7, 2009, being declared regular working days, for both the private and public sectors.
The announcement of the Carnival compensation days usually happens earlier in the year, but it was delayed in 2009, due to the hesitations about possibly moving the date of the Carnival public holidays by 2 weeks (18-Feb-2009).
The compensation of the 2 days of the Carnival public holidays by subsequent working Saturdays, is regulated by Article 2 of the decreto ejecutivo 418 of June 19, 2007 (20-Jun-2007).
Note that, additionally, Saturday, January 10, and Saturday, January 17, 2009, were already normal working days in Ecuador due to the declaration of 2 year-end bridge public holidays last year (29-Nov-2008).
