French Polynesia Announces 2009 Public Holidays

(Posted on Friday, February 6, 2009)

Source: Présidence de la Polynésie Française (Papeete)

The Presidency of French Polynesia has announced the list of official public holidays for the calendar year 2009.

This published list of official public holidays in French Polynesia in 2009 (Arrêté n° 165 CM du 4 février. 2009 fixant, au titre de l'année 2009, la liste des fêtes légales et des jours fériés applicables aux agents en fonctions dans les services et établissements publics de la Polynésie française) does not contain any surprises, though it does contain an error in the version included in the February 12, 2009, Journal Officiel de la Polynesie Française.

The list therein has both the May Day and Ascension public holidays listed on May 1st, which was the case in 2008, but not in 2009.

Note that, technically, this list of public holidays only applies to public servants. However, in France and most of its overseas territories (DOM-TOM), there is no difference in the list of public holidays for the private and public sectors.

Finally, the aforementioned announcement, as usual (21-Mar-2008 and 22-Feb-2007), occurs after the new year is well on its way.
