Germany's CDU party, member of the current ruling federal coalition, has introduced legislation for Reformation Day (October 31) to become a public holiday in the state of Berlin, which includes Germany's capital.

Currently, Reformation Day is a public holiday in the following German states: Brandenburg, Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Thüringen, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In addition, it is a school holiday in the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg.
