A youth group with links to the ruling NDC has appealed to President John Evans Atta Mills to consider bringing back the June 4 public holiday.
The June 4 public holiday, marking the date of the 1979 coup that brought former president, Jerry Rawlings to power, was cancelled in 2001 (01-Jun-2001).
It seems unlikely that the new Mills administration will revert to this date as a public holiday, particularly as one of the first announcements of the newly-elected President Mills was to announce a long-awaited public holiday honouring Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah (20-Feb-2009).
