The government of the Indian state of Kerala has announced that it was moving the date of the upcoming Muharram public holiday from January 8, as it had earlier announced, to Wednesday, January 7, 2009.
Most other Indian states, who recognize Muharram as a public holiday, have so far kept to the previously announced date of January 8.
The Muharram public holiday as it is called in India, is called Ashura in the Middle East.
