Religious leaders in the East Nusa Tenggara Province have called on the General Elections Commission (KPU) to change the date for the upcoming, April 9, 2009, legislative elections, pointing out that April 9 is Maundy Thursday, the day before a national public holiday in Indonesia.
The appeal is unlikely to cause the KPU to change the date of the upcoming general elections, which was announced last summer (11-Aug-2008) and is widely expected to be declared a one-off public holiday.
