The government of Israel has announced that Tuesday, February 10, 2009, had been announced as a public holiday to coincide with that day's general elections.
This declaration of an election day public holiday, which is usually a formality, was this time not taken for granted as there were multiple reports in past months of moves to stop the practice (12-Jan-2009, 19-Dec-2008, and 16-Nov-2008).
