Kyrgyzstan Rules Out March 23 Public Holiday

(Posted on Monday, March 16, 2009)

Source: Kyrgyz National News Agency (Bishkek)

Earlier today, Kyrgyzstan's labor and social development ministry issued a statement announcing that, as per article 113 of the Labour Code of Kyrgyzstan, Monday, March 23, 2009, would be a regular working day.

The announcement was meant to end recent rumours that Monday, March 23 would be declared as a one-off public holiday. These rumours were based either on the idea that a compensation public holiday should be given for the Novruz public holiday falling on a Saturday, or the idea that, a bridge public holiday would be declared, as the next day, March 24, is another public holiday, National Revolution Day (17-Mar-2008).
