Around noon, today, Lebanon's Prime Minister Fouad Siniora declared February 14, 2009, as a public holiday and ordered all public institutions and public and private teaching institutions to remain closed for the day.
The declaration of February 14, the anniversary of the assasination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, has been declared a public holiday almost every year since his assasination (13-Feb-2007 and 09-Feb-2008), but expecting this trend to last is risky, as a return to a pro-Syrain government would surely see the end of this public holiday.
