At a cabinet meeting, earlier today, the government of Nepal declared tomorrow, Thursday, March 26, 2009, a public holiday, in the Kathmandu Valley (ie. the Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts) for the Ghode Jatra festival.
The list of public holidays published recently in the Nepal Gazette for 2065 B.S. does not mention a public holiday for the Ghode Jatra festival. Officials at Home Ministry said that yesterday's decision was made after realizing the mistake.
This is the second time in as many weeks that an omission in the recently released list of 2065 B.S. public holidays has to be corrected. Last week, the cabinet had to specially declare Republic Day as a public holiday (22-Mar-2009).
