Niger's Ministère de la Fonction Publique et du Travail has announced that the upcoming Tabaski (Feast of Sacrifice) public holiday would be observed on Saturday, November 28, 2009.
The communiqué, stemming from one issued by the Secrétariat général du Ministère des Affaires Religieuses et de l'Action Humanitaire goes on to say that the aforementioned announcement was made as the new Moon crescent was sighted over Niger on the night of November 18, 2009.
Contrary to what happened last year (05-Dec-2008), this year's Tabaski public holiday will only last one day, although this might be due to the second day being a Sunday, which no longer give rise to day in lieu public holidays in Niger (09-May-2006).
