Oman has announced that the upcoming Prophet's Birthday public holidays would be observed on March 10-11, by the public sector (all employees at the ministries, public authorities and other departments of the state administrative apparatus). As for the private sector, it will only get a 1-day public holiday, on Thursday, March 12, 2009.
These decisions were made public in separate announcements, by Oman's minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and chairman of the Civil Service Council, Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, and Oman's minister of manpower, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri.
The dissociation of the public holidays of the private and public sector has become a regular occurence in Oman (see, for example, 22-Dec-2008 and 05-Dec-2008).
