Pakistan's Federal Minister for the Environment, Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi, is reported to have informed the Federal Minister for Railways, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, that his Ministry plans to plant 11 million tree saplings in a single day, next August, and that that day would likely be declared a national public holiday.
Such one-off tree planting public holidays have been declared in other countries in the past (12-Mar-2008 and 18-Nov-2008) and, until recently, there was an official annual public holiday dedicated to trees in Samoa (15-Sep-2007) and South Korea (04-Sep-2003).
