Earlier today, Philippines President Gloria Macapal-Arroyo (PGMA) signed Proclamation 1699 which lists the official public holidays (sub-divided into regular holidays and special non-working days) in the Philippines for 2009.
As per PGMA's habit of tinkering with public holidays, it is reported that she spent part of Christmas Eve touching-up this list which contains a few surprises, as well as some fundamental departures from the rules laid out in Republic Act 9492, "An Act Rationalizing the Celebration of National Holidays" of the summer of 2007 (25-Jul-2007).
