The public sector's human resources department of the government of Puerto Rico (ORHELA) has released the "Memorando Especial Núm. 11-2009", which lists the public sector holidays for the year 2010.
The document, signed by ORHELA's Director, Samuel G. Dávila Cid, puts an end to the speculation that the draft bill "Proyecto de la Cámara 1387", introduced last spring (06-Apr-2009), would be passed and take effect in time for the 2010 public holidays. This draft bill, recently approved by Puerto Rico's Chamber of Representatives (23-Jun-2009), and sent to the Senate, would reduce the number of public sector holidays from 19 to 15.
Note that, as always (13-Jun-2008), the private sector benefits from far fewer public holidays than the public sector. Banks usually follow the public sector holidays, except in cases when these fall on a Sunday.
