Swaziland Declares April 20 Public Holiday

(Posted on Thursday, March 26, 2009)

Source: The Swazi Observer (Mbabane)

Swaziland's Minister of Home Affairs, Chief Mgwagwa Gamedze, announced that Monday, April 20, 2009, had been declared a one-off public holiday due to the fact that this year's King’s Birthday public holiday (April 19) falls on a Sunday.

The moving of fixed-date public holidays that fall on the weekend to the following Monday is not systematic in Swaziland.

Some public holidays do seem to always be moved from Sundays to the following Monday (20-Jul-2007) but not all, despite some past pronouncements by high officials of Swaziland's government (04-Jan-2007).
