Thailand Declares July 6 Public Holiday

(Posted on Wednesday, February 18, 2009)

Source: National News Bureau of Thailand (Bangkok)

Thailand's deputy spokesman to the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Supparak Kuanha, has announced that the Cabinet had approved the declaration of Monday, July 6, 2009, as a one-off bridge public holiday, thus creating a 4-day public holiday.

This one-off public holiday, which occurs before the July 7 public holiday for Asanha Bucha Day (the day before the Buddhist Lent) , had already been discussed for the public sector (18-Feb-2009) and is in line with the recent bridge public holidays policy of Thailand (09-Dec-2008).

Note that, since 2007 (B.E. 2550), the Buddhist Lent public holiday has been dropped, and has been replaced by the Asarnha Bucha Day (16-Nov-2006).
