Earlier today, Thailand's Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, declared a one-off public holiday for tomorrow (Friday, April 10, 2009), to help the government cope with the effects of political protests that caused traffic chaos in Bangkok.
A similar, one-off public holiday was declared in 2006, when the Democratic Reform Council ousted then Thai Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra (19-Sep-2006).
The Prime Minister also confirmed that the re-scheduled ASEAN summit in Pattaya (03-Dec-2008) would begin on schedule, tomorrow.
Finally, note that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week are nationwide public holidays in Thailand, meaning that the country will be shut down for 6 consecutive days, starting tonight.
