Turkey To Vote On 2 New Public Holidays

(Posted on Wednesday, March 4, 2009)

Source: Hurriyet (Istanbul)

Earlier today, Turkey's main opposition party, the Republican People's Party (CHP), introduced a bill to parliament that would create 2 new public holidays; Novruz (Persian New Year) and May Day.

Separate, unsuccessful attempts were already made last year to declare additional public holidays for Novruz (20-Mar-2008) and May Day (21-Apr-2008), and thus we do not expect either of these measures to pass in 2009, either.
