The UAE's Minister of Health, and Chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, H.E. Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, announced that all ministries and federal departments will remain closed on Sunday, March 8, 2009, on the occasion of Prophet Mohammed's birthday anniversary.
The announcement did not specify which would be the date of the public holiday for the private sector (which is expected to be March 9th), but as the announcement specifically states that March 8th corresponds to the 11th day of the month of Rabi Al Awwal (and the Prophet's birthday is on the 12th) it would seem that this is a bridge public sector holiday to link the Friday/Saturday weekend with Monday, March 9th.
