The UAE's Minister of Labour, HE Saqr Ghobash, has announced that Monday, March 9, 2009, had been declared as this year's date for the private sector public holiday marking the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.
Note that, earlier this week (25-Feb-2009), the day before, March 8, had been declared a holiday for the UAE's public sector, also on the occasion of the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.
This declaration of different public holiday dates for the private and public sectors is new in the UAE, but other countries in the Middle East have done this in the past (28-Jul-2008 and 13-Nov-2007).
