The UAE has released the "Cabinet Resolution No. (17) of 2009 regarding the Public Holidays at the Federal Government" which revises the list of official public holidays and their duration in the UAE.
The aforementioned resolution, which supercedes the "Federal Decree No. (14) of 2007 regarding Public Holidays" (15-Feb-2007) lists the official public holidays and their duration in Article 1, while specifying, in Article 3, that day in lieu public holidays would no longer be observed (Any public holiday may not be deferred or compensated when such public holiday coincides with another public holiday or falls on a weekend).
The resolution also allows for the moving of mid-week public holidays to adjoin the nearest weekend (Save as for Eids-related holidays, any of the public holidays specified in the preceding Article may be changed to the beginning or the end of the week when falling between two business days). Recall that the Cabinet decree No.21/2006 changed the weekend days in the UAE to Fridays and Saturdays, as of Friday September 1st, 2006 (31-May-2006).
