A group of 10 MP's, led by MP Ashok Kumar, is calling for February 12, the birthdate of Charles Darwin, to be made a new national holiday, to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the scientist's birth.
Due to the delays in the process leading up to the declaration of a new public holiday in the UK, it is certain that this proposal, even if it were to pass, would not do so this year.
