Ecuador's Asamblea Nacional (parliament) has passed a bill that declares a new annual, September 19, national holiday to commemorate the birth anniversary of indigenous leader Tránsito Amaguaña.
This new holiday, to be called "Día de la Interculturalidad y la Plurinacionalidad", will be a regular working day.
However, the same resolution also included the declaration of International Women's Day (March 8) as a non-working public holiday. This new non-working public holiday would need to be signed into law by Ecuador's President to become effective.
