The States of Guernsey (the Guernsey Government) are considering declaring this year's May 9th a regular working day to compansate the extra public holiday on Monday, May 10, 2010.

Last fall, after some discussions (11-Sep-2009), the States of Guernsey had finally agreed to declare the day after this year's Liberation Day public holiday, Monday, May 10th, 2010, an additional official public holiday, in Guernsey (14-Oct-2009). The proposal to make Sunday, May 9, 2010, a regular working day goes before the States of Guernsey on March 24.

The anniversary of 1945 liberation was designated a public holiday in 1994.

Neighboring Jersey, which also observes an annual Liberation Day public holiday on May 9th, has rejected 2 separate bills that would have declared a day in lieu public holiday on Monday, May 10, 2010 (03-Feb-2010) and on Friday, May 7, 2010 (27-Feb-2010).
