Philippines' President, Benigno Aquino III, has issued Proclamation No. 936 which declares 3 of the 5 days of the upcoming visit of Pope Francis in the Philippines, January 15, 16 and 19, 2015, as one-off non-working public holidays in Manila and the Philippines' National Capital Region (NCR).
Last month (28-Nov-2014), The Mayor of Manila, the capital of the Philippines, Joseph Estrada, has jumped the gun on the Philippines national government and declared January 15-19, 2015, as municipal public sector holidays on account of the upcoming visit of Pope Francis in the Philippines.
Philippines deputy presidential spokesperson, Abigail Valte, had earlier announced (17-Nov-2014) that Malacaρang, the Presidential Palace, was considering declaring certain days as one-off non-working public holidays in the Philippines during Pope Francis' upcoming visit in January 2015. Pope Francis is scheduled to visit the Philippines from January 15-19, 2015, in Manila and in Tacloban.
Recently (18-Mar-2012), the Cuban government had declared public holidays from March 26 to 28, 2012, to coincide with the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Santiago de Cuba and Havana.
