The Interior Cabinet Secretary of the Kenyan government, Joseph Nkaissery, has announced that the Kenyan government had declared Tuesday, December 27, 2016, as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Kenya for the upcoming Christmas and Boxing Day annual public holidays of Kenya which overlap the weekend in 2016.
The aforementioned announcement is contained in a yet unnumbered Gazette Notice, states that "It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, declares that Tuesday, the 27th December 2016, be a public holiday", thus following the semi-systematic declaration of day in lieu public holidays in Kenya (30-May-2014, 21-Dec-2011 and 23-Dec-2010), despite the fact that sections 3 and 4 of the Public Holidays Act, states that public holidays shall remain on their set date, regardless of the day of the week.
