Brazil Considering Making November 20 A Full National Public Holiday

(Posted on Friday, November 21, 2008)

Source: Agência Brasil (Brasília) - Summary: A new draft bill (Projeto de Lei No. 4.437/04) is now in front of the National Assembly. This bill, if passed into law, would make November 20 (the anniversary of the death of Zumbi dos Palmares, also known as Dia Nacional da Consciência Negra) a new annual public holiday in Brazil.

This follows the recent success of this public holiday which is widely observed on a municipal and state level in Brazil (our November 15, 2008, news update and our November 16, 2008, news update). However, no date has yet been set for a vote on this bill.
