Guyana Announces Date Of Eid-ul-Adha Public Holiday

Source: Stabroek News - Summary: January 1 has been declared a public holiday to observe Eid-ul-Adha, although within the local Muslim community, the festival day will be observed on different dates.

The Central Moon Sighting Committee of Guyana (CMSCG) has placed ads in the national newspapers announcing that Eid ul Adha would be observed on Sunday, December 31, 2006. Meanwhile, the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) has identified Monday January 1, 2007 as the date, while making it clear that the two groups are not affiliated.
