Background Information |

Governing Law: Official public holidays in Jamaica are regulated by the The Holidays (Public General) Act of 1895 (Laws of Jamaica, Vol. VII), most recently amended in 1973.
Christmas Day: Oddly enough, the Holidays Act of Jamaica does not list Christmas Day as a public holiday (although it does specifically refer to the day after Christmas). But, in practice, Christmas Day has been observed as a public holiday in Jamaica for as far back as records can be found.
Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that fall on a Sunday are moved to the following Monday. (the same is not always true for public holidays that fall on a Saturday).
Jamaica International Codes JM and JAM (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .jm (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Jamaica information and news: Bank of Jamaica (Jamaica central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Jamaica maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Jamaica), and Wikipedia (includes Jamaica commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays). |
