Background Information

Weekend Public Holidays:Public holidays that fall on a Sunday are moved to the next Monday.  Many companies close for one to two weeks over the Christmas/New Year period.  National Unity Day is a public holiday gazetted through Statutory Instrument 156 of 1997 to mark the signing of the Unity Accord between the country's two revolutionary parties, Zanu-PF and PF Zapu, on December 22, 1987, in Harare.  Zimbabwe International Codes ZW and ZWE (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .zw (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Zimbabwe information and news: Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Zimbabwe maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Zimbabwe), and Wikipedia (includes Zimbabwe commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
