Background Information

Governing Law: Official public holidays in the Cook Islands are observed on the days prescribed by the Public Holidays Act 1999, as clarified by a notice released by the Prime Minister's Office on December 8, 2003.  When a public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the holiday is to be observed on the following Monday.  Cook Islands International Codes CK and COK (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .ck (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Cook Islands information and news: ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Cook Islands maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Cook Islands), and Wikipedia (includes Cook Islands commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
