Background Information

Adjacent Public Holidays: Since the summer of 2006, Peru issues annual decrees which usually establish that public sector workers are entitled to the day adjacent to a public holiday, as a day off, while making up the time in the following week. The private sector is encouraged to do the same. The goal of this decree is to encourage internal tourism, through the multiplication of long holiday weekends.  Peru International Codes PE and PER (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .pe (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Peru information and news: Central Reserve Bank of Peru (Peru central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Peru maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Peru), and Wikipedia (includes Peru commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
