Background Information

Governing Law: The list and dates of official public holidays in Dominica are regulated by the Public Holidays Act 1907 (amended in 1961 and 1990), Shop Hours Act (1937), the Labour Standards Act (1977), and the Labour Contracts Act (1983).  National Repentance and Dedication Day: This holiday, celebrated annually on April 8, was created in 2005, following the consecutive death in office of 2 Prime Ministers. However, this is not a public holiday (despite many online sources claiming so).  Carnival Tuesday: Although Carnival Tuesday is listed in the 1990 revision of the Dominica Public Holidays Act, it seems to be only observed by banks.  Dominica International Codes DM and DMA (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .dm (ICANN national top-level internet domain). Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Dominica information and news: Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (Dominica central bank), UnitedHealthcare Global (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Dominica maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Dominica), and Wikipedia (includes Dominica commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
