Background Information

Governing Law: The list and dates of official public holidays in Costa Rica are regulated by Article 148 of Costa Rica's Labour code of 1943, as amended over the years, and most recently, in 2007, by the Legislative Decree Nº 8604 (Reforma del Segundo Párrafo del Artículo 148 del Código De Trabajo, Ley N.º 2, y sus Reformas) of September 17.  Unpaid Public Holidays: Two of the public holidays listed in the Labour Code are classified as public holidays with no obligation on an employer's part to pay his/her employees (feriados de pago no obligatorio).
