Background Information

Governing Law: The official public holidays in Macau are regulated by the Ordem Executiva n.º 60/2000 (Define os feriados na Região Administrativa Especial de Macau) which replaced the previous Decreto-Lei nº7/97/M - (Estabelece o regime da tolerância de ponto e da fixação dos dias feriados).  Bank Holidays: Banks in Macau may be open to the public on some of the official public holidays, depending on the years and the weekday on which specific holidays occur for a given year. • For example, in 2007 the Macau Bank Holiday Schedule listed the 2nd day of the PRC National Day holiday as a day when the bank was open, Tuesday, October 2nd. • In 2006, when October 2nd was a Monday, the bank was closed. • Also, in 2007, the Macau Bank was listed as being open on Immaculate Conception Day, December 8, a Saturday. When it was on a Friday in 2006, the bank was listed as closed.  Dongzhi (Winter Solstice): When Dongzhi falls on a Mon-Fri weekday, banks are open.  Macau International Codes MO and MAC (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .mo (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Macau information and news: Monetary Authority of Macao (Macau central bank), UnitedHealthcare Global (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Macau maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Macau), and Wikipedia (includes Macau commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
