31 May 2018 Zimbabwe Electoral Public Holiday Gazetted (Government of Zimbabwe-Harare) The Electoral Amendment Act was gazetted in a Zimbabwe Gazette Extraordinary, as Act No. 6 of 2018, which states that "The polling day or polling days fixed shall be deemed to be a public holiday or public holidays, as the case may be, for the purposes of the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act [Chapter 10:21].".  13 May 2018 Zimbabwe Mulls Summer Electoral Public Holiday (Government of Zimbabwe-Harare) Zimbabwe's President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, is reported to be considering the declaration of a one-off public holiday in Zimbabwe on the occasion of the coming Presidential and Parliamentary elections, scheduled for July or August of 2018.  20 Feb 2018 Zimbabwe Confirms February 21 Public Holiday (The Herald-Harare) Zimbabwe's Service Commission chairman, Mariyawanda Nzuwah, has released a statement re-confirming that Wednesday, February 21, 2018, would be a non-working public holiday in Zimbabwe, as per the terms of the "Statutory Instrument Number 143 of 2017" (gazetted on November 24, 2017).  25 Nov 2017 Zimbabwe Gazettes February 21 Public Holiday (The Herald-Harare) The recently instated president of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has signed the Statutory Instrument 143 published in the Zimbabwe Government Gazette, yesterday, which gazettes February 21 as a new annual non-working public holiday in Zimbabwe to be called Robert Gabriel Mugabe National Youth Day.  02 Sep 2017 Zimbabwe 2018 Public Holidays Gazetted (The Herald-Harare) Zimbabwe's Home Affairs Ministers, Ignatius M. C. Chombo, has gazetted the annual announcement of the dates for the 2018 non-working public holidays in Zimbabwe in terms of the Zimbabwe Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act (Chapter 10:21).  19 Aug 2017 Zimbabwe Amends Public Holidays (The Herald-Harare) Zimbabwe's Home Affairs Minister, Ignatius Chombo, has announced that the government of Zimbabwe had amended the annual list of non-working public holidays in Zimbabwe by declaring February 21 as Robert Gabriel Mugabe National Youth Day, a new annual non-working public holiday in Zimbabwe, in honour of Robert Mugabe, who has ruled Zimbabwe since 1980, and who was born on February 21, 1924.  20 Dec 2016 Zimbabwe Public Holidays December 27 and January 2 (The Herald-Harare) Zimbabwe's Home Affairs Ministers has confirmed that Tuesday, December 27, 2016, and Monday, January 2, 2017, would be non-working public holidays in Zimbabwe.  18 Sep 2016 Zimbabwe 2017 Public Holidays Gazetted (The Herald-Harare) Zimbabwe's Home Affairs Ministers, Ignatius M. Background Information

Governing Law: The public holidays in Zimbabwe are either specified in terms of subsection (1), or declared in terms of subsection (2) of section 2, of the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act [Chapter 10:21].  Weekend Public Holidays:Public holidays that fall on a Sunday are moved to the next Monday.  Many companies close for one to two weeks over the Christmas/New Year period.  National Unity Day is a public holiday gazetted through Statutory Instrument 156 of 1997 to mark the signing of the Unity Accord between the country's two revolutionary parties, Zanu-PF and PF Zapu, on December 22, 1987, in Harare.  Zimbabwe International Codes ZW and ZWE (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .zw (ICANN national top-level internet domain).
