The "Convert Text to Symbols" Option

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Holidays Import option Convert Text to Symbols is used to tell Q++ how to interpret the text found in the SYMBOLS column of the Excel file being imported (column D).

If this option is checked (usually the case), then it means that the contents of that column is plain text corresponding to the lookup text of the special font specified for the Symbol Font of the current Holidays Set. In that case, leaving the option unchecked (above left) shows how Q++ would interpret the text in column D, and indicates that the option should be checked (above right).

If the option is un-checked it means that the person who made the Excel file already chose the appropriate font and symbols and placed them in column D. In that case it is clear that the option should be un-checked (see examples above). This second way of preparing Excel files means a lot of unnecessary for the person preparing the Excel file and should be avoided, by the use of special fonts tables.

It is important to note that the visual feedback given when checking or unchecking this option, shows how Q++ sees the text to be imported, not how it will look after being imported.
