Displaying Gregorian Dates in Chinese

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Gregorian weekdays (Monday to Sunday) and month names (January to December) can be displayed in Chinese, simply by using the [dddd] or [mmmm] tokens and specifying the appropriate tranlation for each month in the Tokens Manager.

Note that in these cases, you should only use the [dddd] and [mmmm] tokens and not include any element of capitalization (ie. do not use [Dddd]). The reason for this is 2-fold : first capitalization has no meaning in Chinese, and second, due to the structure of Special Fonts, the letter corresponding to a capitalized letter has no relation to the original letter (it is like using capitalization on a wingding font).

Sometimes, you may need to display Gregorian dates, in Chinese, using the Gregorian date number and the Gregorian month number, followed or not by the Chinese symbol for month and day.

In the above example, April 9th is displayed, litterally as 4-month-9-day using Chinese characters. To display the month number alone, use [ch_m], or [ch_mm] to also display the month character. To display the date number alone, use [ch_d], or [ch_dd] to also display the day character. Note, however, that these tokens are  expected to be used to display Chinese dates using Chinese characters (using the QppChinese font, for example). Using Western fonts to display these tokens will produce non-sensical results for any number above 9.
