To install a Q++ ANSI Workstation:

1)If this is a Workstation Re-Installation, then you should a) make a back-up of the entire C:\Qpp\ folder and sub-folders, and b) you should de-activate you copy of QuarkXPress (if using QuarkXPress 6 or above), before reformatting your PC or re-installing Windows.

2)Make sure that the computer meets the Configuration Requirements described at the bottom of this topic.

3)If you do not have a copy of the latest Q++Workstation Installation Program, start downloading it now (it is about 45 MB in size), and continue with the next steps while the installation programs is being downloaded.

4)Make sure that a Q++ Server is installed. If not, install it now, before proceeding to the next step.

5)Create a network drive Q:\ which maps directly to the C:\ drive of the Q++ Server (if you do not know how to do this, see the instructions here).

6)Sitting at the workstation, open the folder Q:\QppShare\ and double-click on the program Q++Users.exe. Wait for 20 seconds and then email us the file Q++Users.ini, located in the same folder, and continue with the next steps while a licence file is being created for you.

7)If you are installing more than one workstation at the same time, you should perform steps 1-4-5 on each of the other workstations, before proceeding to this next step. Here you will do either of the 2 following:

If this is a Workstation Re-Installation, then you should now restore the entire C:\Qpp\ folder and sub-folders from the latest available backup.

If this is an Additional Workstation Installation, then you should now copy all the files of the format Q++Ini.* and the single file Q++.ini from the C:\Qpp\ folder of another workstation, one which has already been in use with Q++ Studio, and whose default settings are satisfactory for your company.

8)Install QuarkXPress, making sure to accept the default installation path that the installation program proposes (otherwise, future upgrades of QuarkXPress may be difficult, or even impossible).

a)Apply all necessary updates to bring your version of QuarkXPress to either of the minimum QuarkXPress versions required.

b)If you have installed QuarkXPress 6, or above, launch it once and go through the activation process.

9)Before proceeding to the next step, wait until the completion of the download initiated in step 2, and until you have received a license file from technical support, in response to the ini file you sent in step 5.

10)Open the ZIP file sent by technical support, and extract the 3 files (Q++.BIN, Q++.CRC and Q++.STE), to the folder Q:\QppShare\ (if asked if you want to overwrite the existing files, answer Yes).

11)Launch the installation program Q++WorkstationSetup.exe that you downloaded in step 3, and accept all the default options proposed to you.

12)After the installation is complete, remove any CDs or DVDs from the computer, and restart Windows.

Q++ Workstation Required Configuration

The computers used as Q++ Workstations, should ideally, be as fast as possible, although the minimum hardware requirements will depend on the version of QuarkXPress that you will use.

Processor

The processor speed required depends essentially on the version of QuarkXPress you plan on using :

QuarkXPress 4 : Pentium III - 1 GHz

QuarkXPress 5 : Pentium 4 - 2 GHz

QuarkXPress 6 : Pentium 4 - 3 GHz.

QuarkXPress 7 : Pentium Xeon Dual core - 2.8 GHz or above.

QuarkXPress 8 : Pentium Xeon Dual core - 2.8 GHz or above.

QuarkXPress 9 : Pentium Xeon Dual core - 2.8 GHz or above.

RAM

The physical memory needed on your workstation depends essentially on the version of QuarkXPress you plan on using :

QuarkXPress 4 : 256 MB

QuarkXPress 5 : 512 MB

QuarkXPress 6 : 1.0 GB

QuarkXPress 7 : 2.0 GB

QuarkXPress 8 : 2.0 GB

QuarkXPress 9 : 2.0 GB

Operating System

The only operating system supported by the ANSI version of Q++ Studio is Windows XP Professional (SP3).

Logon

You must be logged on as Administrator on any workstation on which you want to install and run Q++ Studio.

Screen

A 17 inch display (optimum is 22 inches) with a screen resolution of 1024 by 768 (optimum is 1280 by 1024) and 16 million colors.

Disk Space

20 GB of free disk space (Quark 4 and 5) or 40 GB of free disk space (Quark 6, 7 and 8, 9).

Network

A 100 Base-T network card of high quality (otherwise the QuarkXPress anti-piracy module may cause problems), a 100 Base-T network (LAN) and a 256K internet connection.

Separately Purchased Software

A valid license to use, and a properly installed copy of a recommended version of QuarkXPress.
