Astronomical Calculations

The method used by Q++ to calculate astronomical data such as sunrises/sunsets, moonrise/moonset, and various other astronomical events. The 3 possible choices are : Use full-accuracy JPL-NASA, or Use compressed JPL-NASA, or the method used until November 2004, Use Meeus.

By default, the second option will be used, since the data files it relies upon are installed with the latest Q++ update and produces results that are almost indistinguishable from those using the first option, which requires the download of a data file of almost 200 MB. The 3rd option is not recommended as it ignores many effects such as refraction, the variable size of the Sun and Moon and is based on less accurate positional data than either of the first 2 methods.

However, to make sure that some of your diaries for 2005 do not contain slightly different astronomical times than other diaries of the same year, the option Use old method for dates before is set by default to use the old method (Meeus) for all token dates before January 1, 2006.
