Using a Quark version whose support is still in beta phase

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Cause : This message occurs if the QuarkXPress Version to be used by Q++ is set to version of QuarkXPress whose support by Q++ is still in its beta phase (ie. being tested). Currently, June 2004, Q++ fully supports all versions of QuarkXPress from 4 to 6.

Usually, the first release of a new version of QuarkXPress (for example 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0) contains too many bugs to be safely exploitable, and one must wait for one of the subsequent patches (4.04, 5.01, ...) for the current version of QuarkXPress to be exploitable. Usually this happens within 6-9 months of the initial release of a new version of QuarkXPress. The present message is therefore usually maintained until the release of a stable patch by QuarkXPress.

Note that this message will disappear when the first stable version of the current QuarkXPress is available, but Q++ cannot tell if you have installed this patch on your workstation (because it cannot compare the EXE dates since the QuarkXPress installation program modifies the EXE date during installation). You must therefore make sure that you have updated to the most recent QuarkXPress patch.

Consequence : You may encounter problems when you try to scan GridTemplates (rare) or generate diaries (mostly).

Solutions :

Change Quark Version : The version of QuarkXPress that is used on your workstation may have been changed accidentally, or you may have moved to a more recent version of QuarkXPress and uninstalled the previous one (this is not recommended, you should always keep previous versions of QuarkXPress on your workstation ... you never know when you might need them).

Reset QuarkXPress versions manually : Opens the Preferences dialog and lets you do one of the above, manualy, as well as set other parameters related to QuarkXPress, such as the locations of the QuarkXPress executable on your PC.
