Background Information

Latvia started to officially declare Bridge Holidays in 2007. To make up for these extra public holidays, there are designated specific Working Saturdays.  Weekend Public Holidays: There was a lot of debate in Parliament in May 2006 and January 2007 as to what to do when public holidays fell on a weekend day. But, as of July, 2007, nothing has yet come into effect.  Although there is a sizeable Russian minority in Latvia, none of the Orthodox holidays is a public holiday, although an attempt was made in 2003 to declare Orthodox Christmas as a public holiday in Latvia .  Latvia International Codes LV and LVA (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .lv (ICANN national top-level internet domain).
