Tomorrow, for the first time ever, Hong Kong will observe Buddha's Birthday as an official public holiday.

Less than 2 years ago, Hong Kong changed its August public holidays at the behest of its newly appointed Chief Executive (1997-07-31 and 1997-06-20), and the Buddha's Birthday was made into an official public holiday last year (1998-09-09) and this was then confirmed earlier this year in the released official list of non-working public holidays to be observed in Hong Kong for the calendar year 2000 (1999-05-07).
