The President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, has signed a resolution declaring Monday, January 2, 2006, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Uzbekistan "with the aim of creating favourable conditions for workers to have a rest and a reasonable use of working time".

As usual in such cases of declaring one-off non-working public holidays in Uzbekistan (2005-12-05), the aforementioned non-working public holiday is to be compensated by having Satuday, December 31, 2005, declared a regular working day in Uzbekistan.
