The government of Vanuatu has gazetted the Bill for the Public Holidays (AMENDMENT) Act No. of 2005, passed during the Second Ordinary Session of 2005, and which adds a new February public holiday for Father Lini Day.
As per the bill's abstract, "This Bill amends the Public Holidays Act [CAP 114] by adding to the Schedule of the Act, “Lini Day” on 21 February each year.".
As is still often the case in the legislation of Pacific countries, the bill is also gazetted in French; "Exposé des motifs: Le projet de loi ci-joint modifie le Règlement N°19 de 1980 en ajoutant à l’Annexe de la loi, la date du 21 février, journée-mémoire de Lini, comme jour chômé chaque année".
The last time a public holiday was added in Vanuatu was in 1993, when the Public Holidays (Amendment) Act No. 17 Of 1993 added the July 24, Children's National Day public holiday.
