Uganda Declares May 12 Inauguration Public Holiday

Uganda's State Minister for Public Service, Patrick Okumu Ringa, announced yesterday that Friday, May 12, 2006, would be a one-off public holiday in Uganda to commemorate President Yoweri Museveni's swearing-in for his third five-year term.

The Ugandan government had declared Thursday, February 23, 2006, the date of the Presidential poll, as a one-off public holiday (2006-02-20).

Election-related public holidays are common in Uganda (2002-02-13, 2001-06-25, 2001-03-09, and 1997-11-05).
