The President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, has signed a resolution declaring Monday, May 8, 2006, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Uzbekistan "with a aim of creation of favorable conditions for workers and rational use of working hours".
As usual in such cases of declaring one-off non-working public holidays in Uzbekistan (2005-12-28 and 2005-12-05), the aforementioned non-working public holiday is to be compensated by having Satuday, May 6, 2006, declared a regular working day in Uzbekistan.
The net result will be a 3-day weekend as Tuesday, May 9, 2006, is already the date of the "Day of Remembrance and Honors" annual non-working public holiday.
